RUG SELECTION GUIDE

SIZE, PLACEMENT AND STYLE

Learn the key points for choosing the size and style of your rug. Read the following tips before taking out the tape measure and checking out the catalogue.

RUG SIZES BY PLACEMENT

Find below the most common layouts for a rug in the living room, bedrooms or hallways. Choose the one that best suits your home.

How to choose a rug for the living room and dining room?

undefined

Centred rug for small living rooms

Leave a gap of several centimetres between the rug and the furniture if your living room is small. A centred rug, with the same length as the sofa and that does not touch the furniture, will give a sense of order and the space will seem wider.
undefined

A rug wider than the sofa for medium-sized living rooms

If the living room is medium in size, the rug can be a little larger than the sofas so, in addition to being centred and leaving a gap between the rug and the furniture, it can protrude a little from the sides and therefore cover more floor space.
undefined

Rugs under the sofa for living rooms with furniture against a wall

In larger living rooms, where there is space and the sofas are partly against a wall, the rug may be wider, so that it is covered by the sofas or armchairs that surround it. In any case, it should always be placed in a central position in relation to the furniture.
undefined

Full-surface rugs for large living rooms

If you have a large living room, the rug that covers it can also do so fully, or almost fully. This recommendation also applies to sofa areas not bordered by a wall. The rug will ensure that this space is well differentiated from the surrounding area. Remember to keep all furniture inside the rug surface.
undefined

Rugs that fill the chair area for dining rooms

In a dining table area, the rug you choose for the floor should be wide enough to cover not only the chair area for when the chairs are against the table, but also when they are pulled out. Otherwise, there exists the uncomfortable possibility of tripping over the rug when going to sit at the table.

How to choose a rug for the bedroom?

undefined

Spacious rugs for large bedrooms

Choose a rug that fills the entire space if you have a large bedroom. In this way, in addition to gaining in comfort, you will be able to create greater noise insulation for better rest.
undefined

One-piece rugs for medium-sized bedrooms

For medium-sized rooms, choose a rug that covers the entire room except for the bedside tables. Even if your bedroom isn't that big, you'll still have the advantage of the comfort and privacy of a unique rug.
undefined

Independent rugs for all types of bedrooms

This option is still very common and one of the most used for any size of room. Especially if you have a small bedroom, opt for small rugs on the sides of the bed.
undefined

Rugs at the foot of the bed for bedrooms of any size

This option is less common but no less interesting. Rugs at the foot of the bed are often used when there is parquet flooring, carpet, underfloor heating or if you simply prefer to put on slippers when you get up.
undefined

Rugs at the side for single bedrooms

For rooms that belong to children or young ones, or simply a single room that is close to the wall, choose a rug that runs along the entire length of the bed, including the bedside table.
undefined

Large rugs for children's bedrooms

In the children's rooms, choose a wide rug that allows them to have an area in which to play, read, or change clothes comfortably.

How to choose a rug for the hallway?

undefined

Narrow rugs for hallways

For hallway rugs it is advisable to choose a size that leaves a free space on the sides. Choose hallway rugs that are 10 to 15 centimetres narrower than the total width on each side, i.e., measure the width of the hallway and subtract 20 or 30 centimetres to get the right size.
undefined

Multiple rugs for long hallways

If you want your hallway to look shorter, use several rugs placed one after the other with a space in between. It is important that all the doors leading to the corridor open towards the inside so that they do not collide with it.

RUG STYLES BY DESIGN

Don't know whether to opt for plain or printed rugs? We have some recommendations so that you can choose the rug that better adapts to your layout, décor and furniture
Printed rugs

Printed rugs for contrast

Rugs with printed designs and patterns are perfect when the rest of the décor's fabrics, such as curtains, sofas and cushions, are plain. With a printed rug you can afford that vividness, personality and contrast that you would not be so daring with when it comes to more “definitive” pieces, such as furniture.
Plain rugs

Plain rugs for finding a balance

If you have many decorative elements or different pieces with prints already on other textiles, a plain rug will help you visually balance the environment. They are also recommended for small spaces, because they create more width than a rug with a lot of visual impact.
